Sometimes she’s thankful for her skin, because she’s fairly certain that if she was white, even her ears would be red. “Yeah… Mr. Stewart talked about me?” She remembers that Lantern, he helped Static from time-to-time, and had even helped Icon recently. He reminded her of her father, all military efficiency and strength. She smiles slightly and her voice this time is stronger. “I’ve heard about you from him too.”

“Indeed he has. He was praising you for your aid in recent events.” Her eyebrows arch in surprise at Rocket’s final statement. It wasn’t often that other Lanterns discussed her and when they did, it was never in a very positive light. “Though I trust Lantern Stewart very much, I do hope that you have heard nothing ill about me.”

She shrugs, looking momentarily confused. “Why would I?” Stewart’s a military man, that much she knows, and she’s certain that he’d never speak ill of anyone unless provoked. She smiles, “All I’ve heard has been great!” She smiles, and a few strands of hair fall in her face. Not thinking of the woman in front of her she sticks out her lip and blows it out of her face.

“It is a very complicated story and a lengthy one as well,” she supplies. “But there are some Lanterns within the Corps who no longer trust me.” Her ring flickers and two construct cushions take shape between her and Rocket. She maneuvers one of them behind the younger girl and moves the other one behind herself. “I suppose that I am simply a bit paranoid when others tell me that my fellow Lanterns have been speaking about me.” She takes a seat on the construct and smiles when Rocket blows the hair out of her eyes.

“It’s not anything, bad, I promise.” She smiles, slightly curious about the story of her new… acquaintance, but knows better than to ask, better than to pry where she’s not wanted. She sits on one of the cushions, but falls back, the cushion softer than she expects. Laira chuckles, voice strong and she’s blushing again.

She rubs the back of her head, her hand running through the short, thick, curls at the base of her neck as she looks up at the downright regal woman in front of her, and feels unprepared to meet her, feels the earrings in her ears, and the way she hasn’t washed her hair in a week and a half. She corrects her posture, remembering half-paid attention to choir classes in her freshman year. “I’m Icon’s sidekick, it’s…” Nice sounds too trite, too simple, for a woman with the same kind of regal appearance as Wonder Woman, “an honor to meet you.”

Laira continues smiling, catching the subtle movements the young girl makes as she stands before her. “There is no need to be uneasy around me. I am a warrior, the same as you.” Recognition slowly dawns in her mind and she gently tilts her head in thought. “Icon. Lantern Stewart has spoken of him before. Your name is Rocket, correct?”

“It’s a pleasure to meet you too,” Shayera smirks. She remembers seeing the image of the young hero, discussing how there was a lack of females on the newly formed Justice group. “I understand that you’re the newest addition to the Young Justice. How’s that going?”

“It’s…” She pauses, thinking of how much she has missed because she wasn’t there from the start, and of how they don’t mean to exclude her, but they always do.
